What is the difference between a sterilization/disinfection-compatible scanner and an antibacterial scanner?
Due to the spread of the novel coronavirus, companies that use barcode scanners have started to wipe and disinfect them with alcohol or disinfectants as a preventive measure against infection. This is particularly essential in places where multiple people share a scanner. With conventional scanners, repeated wiping and disinfection can lead to damage or malfunction of the housing, so there is a growing demand for barcode scanners that can withstand alcohol and strong disinfectants.
What happens if you wipe and disinfect a barcode scanner with alcohol or sodium hypochlorite?
What about common barcode scanners?
Conventional barcode scanners are made of polycarbonate or ABS resin, which are not resistant to the disinfectants used for wiping. As a result, the case may deteriorate.
What about antibacterial models?
Antibacterial plastic materials that can suppress virus growth do not necessarily have resistance to disinfectants. Therefore, it cannot be assumed that antibacterial models are safe from the effects of disinfectants.
